Shrine of St. Veronica Giuliani and the Capuchin Clares Monastery
Veronica Giuliani is one of the greatest mystics of the history, had many revelations and received the stigmata. Born in Mercatello Metauro in 1660 she entered in the monastery of the Capuchin Clares of Città di Castello at seventeen, where she remained until her death in 1727, after serving the Lord, beloved Bridegroom and her sisters. The autopsy reveals the pierced heart: after receiving the wounds of the Passion of Christ – reveals the spiritual diary – “I cried a lot and with all my heart I prayed the Lord to hide them from the others eyes.” On the instructions of the spiritual director, Veronica wrote down his experiences in a diary, published in ten volumes from 1825 to 1928. In 1839she was proclaimed Saint. The Sanctuary, adjacent to the Church of the Sacred Heart, the first Italian church to have received this title, presents a collection of precious relics and paintings.
